Montreal, April 16, 2019 – Starting today, Professionals’ Financial will offer three new socially responsible investment (SRI) funds that take environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria into account.
“Our goal was to enter the SRI space at an opportune time with a well-researched offering that is appropriate for our clients,” says André Sirard, President and CEO of Professionals’ Financial, a wealth management firm serving professionals that has $4.3 billion in assets under management.
Professionals’ Financial will offer three new funds that promote an inclusive philosophy, ethical practices and socially responsible initiatives, all managed by Mackenzie Investments:
- A fund focused on the global energy transition (Mackenzie Global Environmental Equity Fund)
- A fund invested in companies that promote gender parity, women’s leadership and diversity (Mackenzie Global Leadership Impact Fund)
- A fund that supports social and environmental change (Mackenzie Global Sustainability and Impact Balanced Fund)
“Fifty percent of assets under management in Canada today are in the socially responsible investment sector,” says Mr. Sirard. “SRI is now a mature market with a promising outlook for long-term returns.” Over 60% of studies have found a positive correlation between a company’s attention to ESG considerations and its financial performance.
Since 2016, Professionals’ Financial has implemented multiple socially responsible measures including a targeted exclusion strategy (tobacco, cannabis and firearms) for its actively managed funds and a best practices due diligence of outside fund managers.
Mr. Sirard, who has helmed Professionals’ Financial for a decade, welcomes the changes: “The financial sector is changing fast and environmental, social and governance issues will claim growing attention. We are pleased to offer funds that have a genuine positive impact on society and empower our clients to be part of the solution.”
